Five men's lacrosse players from Montgomery County and Washington D.C. have been invited to tryout for the U.S. men's U-19 national team. USA Lacrosse announced the 122-player pool through a press release on Friday.
Team USA Head Coach Tim Flynn (Mountain Lakes High School, N.J.), will lead a group along with assistant coaches Jack Crawford (Loyola Blakefield, Md.), Tom Duquette (Norfolk Academy, Va.) and Tom Rotanz (Shoreham-Wading River High School, N.Y.) that will make the final selections and narrow the roster down to 23 men. The final roster will be announced on July 15th.
Tryouts for the 122-player pool are set to begin on July 7th-10th, at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in Catonsville, Md. The final 23-man roster will travel to Turku, Finland, in 2012 for the Federation of International Lacrosse U19 World Championships.
The Interstate Athletic Conference is represented well with six players in total invited to tryout, four of which come from Montgomery County. Bullis was the only school to have teammates make the list for the men's player pool, one more than both conference rivals, Landon and Georgetown Prep.
Gonzaga lacrosse's Connor Reid was the sole representative from the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. The junior scored 18 goals this season and led the back-to-back WCAC champs with 28 assists.
Good Counsel defenseman Caileigh Sindall and attackmen Brigid Smith have already made the final 18-woman USA U-19 women's roster announced back in February. The U.S. U-19 women's national team will travel to Hannover, Germany, for the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) U19 World Championship in August. The U.S. team includes two other sets of high school teammates besides the Good Counsel duo.
