Since leaving Montrose Christian, for a one-year trip to the University of Texas and the NBA, local star Kevin Duran has carried on the tradition of playing in the Goodman Summer League held at D.C.'s famous Barry Farms basketball courts. Like many stars before Durant, including Allen Iverson, Jerome Williams, Michael Beasley, and Gilbert Arenas, Barry Farms is a Mecca for D.C. area basketball fans and players alike.
With Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team eliminated from the playoffs more than a ten days ago, the 6'9" wing will hone his game while playing at Barry Farms.
According to Durant's high school coach Stu Vetter's twitter account @MontroseHoops, basketball fans will be able to see the NBA's leading scorer up-close and personal beginning on Monday night. Vetter tweeted on Sunday, "Expecting to see KD (Kevin Durant) play at the Goodman League tomorrow evening."
The Goodman League, formerly known as simply Barry Farms, has been around since the 1970's and has become one of the top street ball courts in America. With such an abundance of local basketball talent, NBA stars like Durant can come to Barry Farms to face top competition.
Barry Farms has basketball action year round, but the organized season is approximately three months long, covering the months of June, July, and August. Crowds can often become heavy quickly, so if you want to make a trip to see Durant or other action it is advised to get there early.
